This is a really important point. There is a huge cultural chauvinism at play when we assume that poor kids are only capable of interacting with the mundane and the commonplace. Our culture values classical music, for instance. We build huge temples to it and subsidise it with public funds. Yet how on Earth would a poor child access classical music via a pathway of relevance? TV ads perhaps? How silly and thin these ideologies are.
