#biscuitgate
December 15, 2012For those of you not on Twitter, I’m sure you’ve all been waiting to hear what happened on #ukedchat this week. Did the biscuit option win despite the attempt to fix the vote?
The answer is “yes”.
Unfortunately, as we approached the time for the discussion, this was tweeted:
That’s right, the poll was ignored and a related, but blatantly different, topic was put up instead. Ironically, some of the tweeters discussing the carpet-bagging topic were actually arguing that children should have a say over lesson content.
Full archive of the resulting chat can be found here: http://www.scribd.com/doc/116746681/Archive-Session-129
Robert Mugabe’s explanation of how he won the election after all can be found here: http://ukedchat.com/session-129
I think the gap between progressive educators rhetoric’ about debate, democracy and choice, and their actual behaviour, is a topic worth returning to in the future.

I fully endorse the idea that you, and other non ‘techno-zealots’ be given the chance to put up a poll of questions on a regular basis.
With the attendant responsibility of capturing, archiving and providing commentary on the the discussion, of course.
by l4l1 December 15, 2012 at 1:06 pmLoved some of the tweets! I was particularly taken with the idea of introducing a dozen highly poisonous vipers into the lesson and sitting on the antidote until everyone had completed the set task.
I can’t follow the actual conversation, as Twitter is still a mostly closed book to me. I’m registered, but haven’t a clue how to use it, and all the retweeting, hash-tags, etc, is impenetrable.
